Acer Aspire 8591G bios update failed -> solution to repair

Acer Aspire 8951G Did you ever try to update you Acer Aspire 8591G’s bios and failed? Meaning after restart it didn’t start anymore?

Well, thats kind of called the black screen of death. In this case it is caused by a bios problem. BIOS, Basic Input Output System , is the first code run by a PC when powered on. If it fails … .

At other laptops things may be more severe, you may have to send your laptop to an authorized service or to the producer itself to fix your problem, but in this case I wil show you what to do.

Acer bios updates are almost like a lottery.

I must say that I did not find the solution from scratch, i found help here : http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-95127-acer-aspire-one-zg5-won-t-boot-up but for another category of laptop and here: . What I found there helped me a lot to fix my problem.

First go to http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=3657 and download a BIOS update file. I took the latest one so I think I doesn’t matter which one you choose.

So , after you have downloaded the arhive BIOS_Acer_1.13_A_A, extract it. You will find 2 folders. In the Windows folder there is a file ZRH_113W.exe. Rename  it from exe to rar. Do not attempt to do this from a Total Comander, it might not let you rename it. Double click on it, or extract it. It will work.  Take the ZRH.fd file, we wil need it. Go back to the other folder,  the DOS folder, and take the ZRH_113.exe file. Put them both on an empty FAT32 flash drive.

Insert the usb stick into the laptop and make sure it has the charger conected and that it is plugged on. Hold down keys fn + esc in the same time and power up the laptop; when the power led begins to blink release the buttons and press the power button once mor.If the stick is  flashing it indicaesthat it’s flashing the bios,. If not try again. Do not remove the flash drive during the procees. Don’t  even touch it ;)).
